  1. Why can’t the state try to attract a business … a factory … an industry… that raises the bar (no, not THAT kind) for people in the area and builds momentum for other similar businesses. If you do what you’ve done you’re going to get what you’ve got … and in this case this casino will simply foment and perpetuate the lowest common-denominator and crime. Aspiration and inspiration are dead in New Bedford if this casino goes in. Funny, Silicon Valley never has this debate.

    • Who else is going to spend 80 million to clean up that site no one will. And for crime hell we are one of the worst cities. Or how about the 5000 jobs the casino will open up, maybe that will give these young adults a hope and job a way of making a living and it will help bring the crime rate down.

  2. For those of you who have traveled to Fox Wiods and the other casinos. Ask yourself if you ever ventured off the travel route to spend a dime at any of the local businesses or restaurants. And I don’t mean for gas. Now tell me how a casino is going to help the surrounding area or New Bedford as a whole.

    • Will science they will be buying produce, fish, and other things from local businesses I think that would be a way. Plus the clean up of the water front it self is worth it, the will make it a more tourist destination.and the 5000 jobs that its going to create will that might help also don’t you think

  3. They aren’t really going to clean up the contamination. They will pay off the inspectors. Because it’s going to cost way more the the $50 million they are saying it will cost, and take forever to do it right. And the jobs are a myth. Please wake up.

  4. i think a casino is great but not downtown, should of gone to golf course like planned when mayor tierney was in office rit off highway, airport rite there and train tracks also

Just want to say: VOTE NOT on the Casino. Our city should be relying on God, our prayers and worship to get it up from where its fallen into and NOT gambling! We’re only making more ADDICTED people and keeping those who are addicted under the evil grasp of it (which isn’t from God since it’s not perfect and beautiful – it’s a MAN MADE reliance way to GAIN. And, of course it’s more LOSS than gain! SAY NO TO DRUGS – Casino is just about that bad. It’ll take the city down. Temporary construction jobs, then a minimal amount of jobs (so it’s something, better than nothing? Wrong) and they won’t pay so spectacular of an amount to be praised! So there will be some tax income for the city. They’d get that from being worshipers but we want to separate city/state and God from each other. PRAISE God and rely on the perfect one who creates perfect things. If it’s not working for you, then you aren’t doing it right – or doing enough – or doing the average persons’ minimal that they can do; that’s why all kinds of bad decisions that look good turn out to be wrong ones! STUDY your Bible – not READ it. notepad and learn how to THRIVE and NOT just SURVIVE! or suffer by going with man’s limited ability!!! Our consistency of involvement in God and city affairs need to happen to make New Bedford GREAT. Not dumping everyone’s money into a place to get back a portion of it’s profits – which IS what IT IS!
