Police respond to two groups exchanging gunfire in Wareham Saturday evening

On Saturday, September 12, at about 8:54 p.m. Wareham Police responded to Old Onset Road near Midway Street for a report of a disturbance in the street involving firearms.

As officers were approaching, several people fled the area. Officers stopped a vehicle on Onset Avenue, but determined it had not been involved in the incident. In addition, they checked several spots, however were not able to locate any of the suspects. Eleven spent shell casings were found near the intersection of Old Onset Road and Midway Street.

It appears two groups of individuals had an argument and began shooting at each other before fleeing. It is believed that no one was injured during the incident, and Wareham Police Detectives are continuing to investigate.

Officers Chris Smith, James White, Michael Phinney, and Sergeant Steve Soqui were the initial responding officers to the disturbance.
