New Bedford Police Investigation Leads To Heroin Charges Including Possession With Intent To Distribute Charges

A drug investigation by the New Bedford Police narcotics unit led to the arrest of a city man Monday on charges including possession of heroin with intent to distribute.

Xavier Thompson, 23, of 397 North Front St. Apt. 1, New Bedford, the target of a search warrant executed by the narcotics unit, was charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute, conspiracy to violate drug laws, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop for a police vehicle.

Prior to executing the search warrant, Thompson was observed leaving his residence in his vehicle.

Thompson was stopped in his vehicle by police vehicles. During the initial stop, Thompson attempted to flee, striking two police vehicles before being apprehended.

As a result of the stop, plastic bags containing a total of 10 grams of heroin were discovered.

During a subsequent search of his residence at 397 North Front St., Apt. 1, police found digital scales, cutting agents, plastic bags and $508 in U.S. currency.

Also present at the residence and charged were:

Justin Jardin, 22, of 247 Ashley Blvd. Apt. 3, New Bedford, possession of class E substance.

Heather Briggs, 28, of 60 Deane St. Apt. 1S, possession of class A substance and a warrant arrest.

Shawneen Anne Lopes, 42, of 101 Phillips Ave. Apt. 1W, New Bedford, warrant arrest.
