State Police Investigate a Fatal Crash on Route 95

Yesterday, at approximately 3:20 am., troopers from the State Police Barracks in Foxboro responded to reports of a four-vehicle crash on Route 95 North, north of Exit 5 in Mansfield.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper David Dicicco indicates that the operator of a 2008 BMW, a 27 year-old male from Revere, was traveling north on Route 95 when, for reasons still under investigation, he lost control of the vehicle and struck a 2002 Ford Explorer, causing the Explorer to rollover into the median. The BMW became disabled in the travel lane and was struck by a 2008 Lexus, being operated by a 25 year-old male from Dorchester. The Lexus was then struck by a 2008 Audi S5 being operated by a 32 year-old male from Revere. One occupant in each vehicle was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

As a result of the crash, a 65 year -old female passenger in the Explorer was seriously injured and transported by ambulance to Sturdy Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The Ford Explorer was occupied by five adult passengers; who were transported to area hospitals for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. The identity of the deceased female is being withheld pending family notification.

The victims’ names are not being released.

The two right lanes of Route 95 north were closed for approximately 6 ½ hours.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS) and the Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS).

State Police were also assisted on scene by Mansfield Fire and EMS, North Attleboro Fire and EMS, and Mass DOT.

No charges have been filed at this time.
