Yesterday at about 7:45 p.m., State Police detectives assigned to the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office arrested a man believed to have left the scene of a hit-and-run fatal crash on Route 91 South at exit 9 in Springfield earlier today. MIGUEL GARCIA, 55, of Springfield was arrested at the State Police barracks in Springfield on the following charges:

1. Motor Vehicle Homicide by Negligent Operation
2. Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury or Death Crash

As a result of the investigation, it is believed that GARCIA was driving on Route 91 South in Springfield in a 2002 Mercury Sable at about 2:15 a.m. this morning when his vehicle entered a crash scene involving three vehicles and struck JEREMY RAMOS, 21, of Holyoke. RAMOS, who was not the operator of the Xterra as previously reported, had stopped at the crash scene to render assistance. He was transported to BMC where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

GARCIA was held on $10,000.00 bail and transported to the Hampden County House of Correction in Ludlow pending his arraignment in Springfield District Court tomorrow.
