Police arrest 69-year old man for fentanyl distribution in New Bedford public housing

New Bedford narcotics officers arrested a 69-year old man on multiple fentanyl distribution charges at 1:30 pm on Tuesday at the elderly-designated Tripp Towers New Bedford Housing Authority building at 12 Ruth Street. The two residents arrested for possession are 58 and 59-years old.

Police arrested Tripp Towers resident 59-year old Barry Andrade of 12 Ruth Street apartment #405 for possession of a class A drug, possession of a class A drug – second offense and conspiracy to violate drug laws. Police also arrested 58-year old Tripp Towers resident Brites Adriano Fernandes of 12 Ruth Street apartment #822 on a possession of a class A drug and conspiracy to violate drug laws.

Police arrested 69-year old Emilio Rivera of 65 County Street, apartment #2 in New Bedford on four counts of distribution of fentanyl and four counts of conspiracy to violate drug laws. Emilio Rivera is being charged with two counts of fentanyl distribution for a four-person bust earlier in the day at 11 Viall Street.

According to the New Bedford Housing Authority’s website, Tripp Towers is an elderly-designated high rise of 202 single bedroom units located in the city’s far south end of New Bedford. The state-funded Chapter 667 building is New Bedford Housing Authority’s largest, with many of the units in the building possessing beautiful views of New Bedford’s outer harbor. Hot lunches are provided at no cost Monday through Friday at 11:30 A.M.

Fentanyl was responsible for 89% of all overdose deaths in Massachusetts in 2018.
