Make Pinwheels with Abby, One of the 1850s Ladies

Abby-pinwheel-new-bedford-parkWhat in the world is a whirligig? It’s an object that spins or whirls, or has at least one part that spins or whirls. It is also known as a pinwheel. Pinwheels can be used as toys and also as simple machines. Find out more about this amazing little invention and make a pinwheel of your own on Thursday, March 14, on AHA! (Art, History, Architecture) night at New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park. This month’s theme is March in Motion. Join Abby, one of the national park’s 1850s ladies, from 6:00-8:00 PM, to create a pinwheel of your own. New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park’s visitor center is located at 33 William Street in downtown New Bedford. As always, admission is free.

Celebrate March in Motion by picking up one of the park’s free Burn While You Learn maps. You can explore New Bedford’s history while you burn calories. The maps are free, and available at the visitor center front desk.
