Our Sisters’ School Celebrates a Year of In-Person Learning and Community Resilience

Our Sisters’ School (OSS) is opening its doors to the Greater New Bedford community on Saturday, June 5, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for an Open House and information session. This will be an opportunity for families and community members to learn about the independent, tuition-free school for girls in grades 5-8. Attendees will tour the School’s indoor and outdoor classrooms, find out about admissions for the upcoming school year, and learn about the School’s mission of empowering girls academically and socially.

OSS was able to provide fully in-person learning, as well as virtual options, for its students throughout the entire 2020-2021 school year. OSS was also able to continue its commitment to “Community as Campus,” extending learning beyond the classroom. Students exhibited artwork at the New Bedford Art Museum, learned to sail with the Community Boating Center, participated in a Women in Leadership workshop, and grew thousands of edible plants for OSS families in the School’s greenhouse.

“Our families, volunteers, staff, and students have shown tremendous flexibility and creativity in adapting to this challenging year. We’ve learned a lot about ourselves and are so proud of what our school has been able to accomplish,” said Sarah Herman, Head of School. “We were able to take advantage of our small class sizes, incredible outdoor classroom, and the collective ingenuity of our community to ensure that each student was provided the space and support to grow and learn safely.”

OSS looks forward to meeting prospective families and interested community members on June 5.
