Massachusetts State Troopers are currently on scene of a two-car motor vehicle crash with a fatality on Route 95 in Attleboro. The deceased victim was a passenger in a taxi that was struck from behind by a speeding vehicle driven by an impaired operator.
Preliminary investigation by Troopers assigned to the Foxboro Barracks indicates that a 2014 Kia Cadenza was being operated at an extremely high rate of speed on the southbound side of Route 95 in Attleboro. At approximately 1 a.m., prior to Exit 2, the Kia rear-ended a taxi cab, a 2015 Toyota Camry, that was also traveling southbound.
As a result of the collision, a passenger in the taxi suffered fatal injuries. The name of the victim and the cab company are not being released at this time.
Troopers have placed the operator of the Kia, a 41-year-old Roslindale man, under arrest for operating under the influence and other motor vehicle offenses. His name will be released later today, along with exact charges.
The investigation is being conducted by Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police, with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and State Police Detective Unit for Bristol County. Troopers were also assisted at the scene by the Attleboro Fire and Police departments and Massachusetts Highway Department.
The breakdown lane and right travel lane at the crash scene remain closed at this time to accommodate the ongoing investigation. No further information is being released at this time. Please do not call the barracks directly.
