“It is bewildering and frightening that so many Americans, prodded by opportunistic politicians, are clamoring for the prosecution of Hunter Biden, as though this is the defining issue for this country.

For the moment the indictments refer to a gun issue and fraud regarding the veracity of the application for possession.

Additionally, even if Hunter Biden eventually is proven to have significantly enriched himself during his father’s vice presidency and cashed in on his familial connections, that is condemnable but hardly an existential threat to democracy in this country.

And if it is proven that President Biden unethically, or criminally, benefitted from his son’s connections to a Ukranian company, it is important that be exposed and disqualifying for a second term.

However, how is this equivalent to fomenting an insurrection at the United States Capitol, disseminating a completely fabricated claim that the 2020 election was rigged and retaining classified documents for bragging, or possibly nefarious reasons, and placing the country at risk for devolving into an autocracy? And on the subject of familial and self enrichment, while in office, Donald Trump’s presidency is rife with glaring examples.

Deflection is obviously the intended objective of all these feverish attempts to discredit and disqualify Biden. So far it has been incredibly successful from a political and monetary perspective.

The more campaign donations to Donald Trump, even if questionably legal to be utilized for his defense, the longer the criminal cases will tie up state and federal courts without ultimate resolutions and with no end in sight, except perhaps to our democracy.”-Betty Ussach, Dartmouth.
