OPINION: homeless shelters in New Bedford are just support chambers for alcoholics, crack addicts, and heroine addicts

“These homeless shelters in New Bedford are just support chambers for alcoholics, crack addicts, and heroine addicts. You guys give them a nice warm bed, a hot meal, a place they can do their drugs and whatever else you give them so they don’t have to get up and look to better themselves.

Once again my house got robbed by someone that stays at the shelter on Division St. – her name is Sandra.

Thanks to the city of New Bedford for helping the worst kind of people in society and turning your back on the ones that really care [about the community].”

  1. This is my opinion regarding homeless shelters being chambers.

Everyone has a different opinion such as I and I feel like saying in general that Homeless Shelters are chambers for addicts are wrong. I completely understand this person’s opinion; I get it, I do. Nevertheless, Homeless Shelters are for struggling folks and children not just addicts and everyone has to remember that. I believe if we say that Homeless Shelters are chambers for addicts soon enough there won’t be any kind of Shelter or help for people who truly need it. Saying this about shelters is like for example saying that people who have free government phones or Medicare/Masshealth for insurance are addicts and alcoholics. That’s just absurd. However, I do agree that some people do take advantage of Shelter or any other governmental help. It isn’t right for people to use drugs or other such things in the shelter or in their own rooms as if they are living in their own home. That being said; I would understand this person’s mindset if that is what they were trying to get across and if it is I apologize. Shelters and governmental assistance are there to help all kinds of people but we should not take things for granted or abuse them.
