Onset firefighter injured during storm in a hit-and-run

At approximately 7:00 pm on Friday, March 2nd during the nor’easter storm, Wareham Police Department patrol officers and Wareham EMS paramedics responded to Cranberry Hwy (Rte. 6&28) in the area of the Onset Avenue intersection to the report of an on-duty Onset Fire Department firefighter struck by a passing motor vehicle.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers were informed that the involved vehicle had left the scene after causing serious injuries to the firefighter, who was assigned to an incident on the highway during the storm. The firefighter was immediately transported to a Rhode Island Hospital.

Investigation of the incident is being conducted by the Wareham Police Department and the Mass State Police. The name of the injured firefighter will not be released at this time, pending notification of family members.
