The Shawmut Diner, a New Bedford Icon for decades, is closing its doors on March 31st, 2014. There are just a few more days before the diner is put into storage and  Cumberland Farms starts to move into that location.

The diner was built in 1953 and was purchased in 1983 by the Paleologos family. The diner was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. Several TV shows and movies were filmed at the Shawmut Diner to include Passionada and Whaling City. On March 22nd, the owners posted a message on their Facebook page:

Yes it’s true…we will be closing our doors 3/31/14. Love and thanks to all of our friends and family who have supported us for over 33 years. We hope to see many of you in the next week, I already stocked up on kleenex. You will be in our hearts forever!
Hugs & kisses,
Celeste & Phil

What was your favorite meal there? Where would be a good location for the diner?
