New Bedford’s Zeiterion Theater offers 10 chances to have fun this February, including FREE events

Zeiterion Performing Arts Center is proud to present a sensational line-up of 10 shows and events throughout the month of February, including concerts for music lovers, truly moving dance performances, spectaculars for the family, and a classic movie on the big screen. The Z’s Creative Classroom will also launch Improv for Women Workshop, Valentine’s Day Salsa Workshop, and a week-long Improv Camp for younger learners.

The month of fun begins on February 3 when The Z’s Movie Monday series returns with Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray, and it culminates on February 27 with Colby James and The Ramblers at Stage Door Live where the audience is seated on stage with the artists. Tickets to all events are available by calling 508-994-2900, online at https://zeiterion.org/, or at the Zeiterion Box Office at 684 Purchase Street in New Bedford. Group sales of 10 tickets or more for select shows are available at a discounted rate by calling 508-997-5664 x123.

Groundhog Day
Monday, February 3, 7:00 p.m.
Tickets: $3 / Free for veterans and service members at the box office

In honor of the holiday, The Z’s Movie Monday features Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray. A cynical TV weatherman (Murray) finds himself reliving the same day over and over again while on location in the small town of Punxsutawney to film a report about their annual Groundhog Day. His predicament drives him to distraction, until he sees a way of turning the situation to his advantage.

Philadanco
Friday, February 7, 8:00 p.m.
Tickets: $27/ $37 / $47

Across the nation and around the world, The Philadelphia Dance Company, or Philadanco, is known for its innovative and creative approach while preserving the predominantly African-American traditions in dance. Established on principles of providing opportunity, inclusion and hope, Philadanco bridges cultural divides and consistently performs for sold-out audiences representing an amalgamation of people from diverse ethnicities and communities.

Z Creative Classroom: Improv for Women Workshop
Saturday, February 8, 12:00 p.m.
Cost: $15

A basic introduction to the art of improvisation geared specifically for women. Coursework includes games and exercises exploring awareness, relaxation, observation, the senses, voice, and physicality. Class instructor Jess Wilson, a working professional actor and director, adapts each workshop to accommodate a fully inclusive experience for students of all levels of experience and abilities.

ArcAttack
Sunday, February 9, 2:00 p.m.
Tickets: $10 / $15 / $18

Creators of the original Singing Tesla Coil, the crew of ArcAttack use their high-tech wizardry to generate a truly ‘electrifying,’ family-friendly performance. Combining their love of rock music and their love of science, the audience will see where the future of science (and music!) is headed. Maybe they’ll have as much fun as the ArcAttack crew, and maybe, just maybe, be inspired to help to leave the world a little better than the way you found it.

Dance Barre: Are All Dances Folk Dances?
Wednesday, February 12, 7:00 p.m.
Tickets: Free

Immerse yourself in the world of movement! Join dance expert Peter DiMuro, Executive Director of the Dance Complex, on the history Zeiterion stage as he delves into the roots of dance. Dance Barre is a free event that inspires dance lovers, dancers and choreographers, as well as inform the experience of an upcoming mainstage performance, in this case, Folclórico Nacional de México on March 7.

Eric Wyatt Quintet at Stage Door Live
Thursday, February 13, 7:30 p.m.
Tickets: $20 General admission / $29 Premium seating (limited)

Tenor saxophonist Eric Wyatt was born into the jazz life. He was introduced to the sax by his father Charles Wyatt, who played tenor and hung out with many of the great jazz icons: Charlie Parker, Gary Bartz, George Braith, Wilber Ware, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, and more. Eric makes his debut at Stage Door Live, where The Z stage is transformed into an intimate concert club. Reserved seats at premium tables are available and remaining tables are general admission. Full bar available.

Z Creative Classroom: Valentine’s Day Salsa Workshop
Friday, February 17, 7:00 p.m.
Cost: $15

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with a Salsa Workshop on the historic Zeiterion Stage! Learn to dance salsa from longtime instructor Sue Young, starting with steps, body movement, and timing. Then practice new skills in the second half of the workshop. No prior dance experience or partner required.

Drum Tao 2020
Sunday, February 16, 4:00 p.m.
Tickets: $29 / $39 / $49

More than 800 million spectators across the world have been touched by Drum Tao! Their stage is created through phenomenal performances and expressions consisting of incomparable “Wadaiko-drums” and the beautiful mesmerizing melody of Japanese flutes and harps. It is the “Japanese Entertainment” for a new generation that completely surpasses expectations!

Z Creative Classroom: Improv Camp
February 18 to 22, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Cost: $175

Younger learners can spend February school break learning the art of improvisation. Coursework includes games and exercises exploring awareness, relaxation, observation, the senses, voice, and physicality. Families are encouraged to attend the showcase on the historic Zeiterion stage on Saturday, February 22.

Colby James and The Ramblers at Stage Door Live
Thursday, February 27, 7:30 p.m.
Tickets: $10 / $20 / $29

Accomplished and versatile American singer-songwriter Colby James has powerful hard-driving vocals and brilliant guitar playing skills that continue to entertain audiences throughout the region. Performing alongside Colby is accomplished professional violinist Heather Church, percussionist and back-up vocalist Jay Pacheco, bass player Leigh Gilbert, lead guitarist Brian DeFusco, and rhythm guitarist James Raiola. Stage Door Live is a unique experience, where the historic Zeiterion stage is transformed into an intimate concert club with a full bar. This performance offers $10 house seats not on the stage.
