City of New Bedford tows multiple cars early Friday morning to allow street sweeper to work

Early Friday morning the City of New Bedford towed numerous vehicles to allow the street sweeper to clean the streets.

The City seemed to be focused on the South End along the streets near the Kilburn Mills.

The contention with the street sweeper lies between the City having to clean the streets and the need for parking. On the one hand, the City has to clean the streets since unfortunately many people seem to think that the streets are the unofficial city dump. We all know that residents would grip and complain if the streets weren’t cleaned. The City has frequently notified residents of the areas, days, and times that the street sweeper will be working. You can see the schedule here.

On the other hand, residents complain about the lack of parking – they have difficulty finding alternative parking spots during the schedule. In addition, some complain that the street sweeper runs at a time when most people are asleep. Something they do to decrease disruption to traffic.

Where do you stand on the street sweeper issue? In what ways can the schedule and program be improved? Let us know on our Facebook page, website, or email us with your opinion on the matter at info@newbedfordguide.com.
