August’s Food for Tots event raised more than $7,000 for pediatric services at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. The event, which was held Thursday, August 16, in New Bedford, was the fifth in a series of Food for Tots fundraisers created to benefit Southcoast Health’s pediatric services, which are provided in collaboration with the world’s top pediatric hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital. Local radio stations Fun 107 and 1420 WBSM were the major media partners to help make Food For Tots a successful program.

Food for Tots invites the community to dine out at some of the area’s best restaurants on the third Thursday of every month, with 15 percent of all proceeds going directly to pediatric services at Southcoast Health. This month’s event featured six New Bedford establishments: Moby Dick Brewing Co., Rose Alley Ale House, Greasy Luck Brew Pub, Top Shelf Bar & Grill, Endzone Sport Pub and Antonio’s Restaurant. It also included a match donation of $2,500 from Stephen & Company Salon and Spa in North Dartmouth.

To date, Food for Tots has raised nearly $50,000 through its events in Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Fall River, Tri-Town and New Bedford.

“I am so thrilled by the tremendous support from the city of New Bedford,” said Jill Fearons, who is a Southcoast Health volunteer and one of the Food for Tots organizers. “All of this hard work from everyone involved in Food for Tots is so that St. Luke’s and the community that it serves will have the very best healthcare services for our kids right here where we live.”

The next Food for Tots is scheduled for Thursday, September 20, in Westport and Tiverton, R.I. The participating restaurants will be announced Monday, September 10.

On The Go in Mattapoisett has also been supporting the initiative by donating 15 percent of its proceeds every Tuesday to the Southcoast Health pediatrics program. To date, On The Go has donated more than $7,500.
