New Bedford proposed as site for the South Coast’s next Starbucks

Are you a New Bedford resident who is a fan of Iced Caramel Macchiatos, Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccinos, and Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brews? Well, you may just be in luck. The city’s planning board will be discussing the idea of a Starbucks with a drive-thru on Coggeshall Street only a few hundred feet from the Riverside Landing Plaza.

The location is a spot that was clearly chosen for its close proximity to two highway exits allowing people the ability to get right back on the road.

A Michigan-based commercial real estate investment and development firm called ALRIG USA Development LLC applied for a site plan review from the city’s planning board over a month ago and amid negotiations with the property’s current owners for the 35,212 square foot site which is zoned as an Industrial B (IB) and Mixed-Use Business. Documents state that the site plan is specifically for 8 Mitchell Street and 157-161 Coggeshall Street which encompasses Petro-Mart, Touchless Car Wash, and what was once a Subway restaurant.

Want a say in the matter? The Planning Board will hear the proposal during its next meeting scheduled for Aug. 11 at 6 p.m.
