City of New Bedford announces potential water service shut-down

The City of New Bedford is replacing a section of water main at the intersection of Union and Eighth streets downtown. This work may result in the temporary shut-off of water service in the immediate surrounding area at 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, with service restored by 11 a.m.

An insertion valve has been installed to avoid a shutdown, but this notification is sent in case the valve doesn’t hold. The city’s Department of Public Infrastructure sent notices earlier this week to customers who may be affected, in areas outlined on the attached map.

As a precaution, it is recommended that customers draw any water for consumption prior to the 8 a.m. shutdown. When service is restored, you may experience discolored water. Please allow the water to run until it is clear and cold.

Please use the contact listed below for questions or concerns about this work. C. Naughton Corp: Eric – (774) 201 1313.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we provide these necessary improvements to your water system.”
