“New Bedford detectives assigned to the Narcotics and Gang Units have seized a firearm from a 15-year-old juvenile.

On July 21, detectives were concentrating their efforts near the Temple Landing housing development in response to numerous complaints received by tenants. As detectives approached a group congregated in the basketball court of Magnet Park, one individual fled the scene. He was then observed hiding a loaded, 25 caliber handgun beneath a parked vehicle. The suspect, who is 15 years old, was taken into custody. The handgun was determined to have been stolen out of Dartmouth.

The juvenile was charged with carrying a loaded firearm and ammunition without a license and receiving stolen property. The arresting officer was Ofc. Nathaniel Almeida.

The New Bedford police department values its partnership with the community. We credit the citizens of the neighborhood who continually communicate their concerns and observations. This is what enables us to take weapons off the streets before they can be used to create tragedy.

If you have any information on criminal activity in your neighborhood, the New Bedford Police Dept. wants to hear from you. You can leave an anonymous tip on our voicemail at (508) 991-6300 Ext. 1.”
