New Bedford police recover large amount of stolen jewelry

During the first week of February a housebreak occurred in the 0 block of Gould St. in the west end. The suspect entered the home through a basement window while the victim was away for a short time. The house was ransacked and numerous electronic devices and jewelry was stolen. The suspect had done some independent home improvement work at the home in the past and thus was familiar with the homeowner and layout.

An investigation by Det. Michael Lopes led to an arrest warrant being issued for Nathaniel John Almeida. A search warrant was also granted for his residence at 280 Acushnet Ave. apt. 2C. As a result of the search on Saturday morning, a large amount of jewelry was recovered and detectives are trying to locate the rightful owners.

Scheduled to be arraigned this morning in New Bedford district court on Breaking and Entering and Larceny in a building is:

Nathaniel John Almeida age 32 of 280 Acushnet Ave. apt 2C.
