“Today is a sad day for the New Bedford Police Department. We lost our retired Police K-9, Dago, who was put to rest at 13 years old. Dago was retired in December of 2014, as a result of an injury.

Dago was imported from Slovakia in 2007 and became partners with our longtime K-9 Officer, Dean Lawrence. Both Officer Lawrence and Dago, attended the Boston Canine Academy where Dago became certified in patrol and narcotics detection. Dago was also certified in SWAT operations.

With the help of Dago; numerous suspects, evidence, firearms, and narcotics were found. K-9 Officer Dean Lawrence and Dago made work a great time and were always there to render assistance.

Thank you for years of service Dago, you will be missed.” – New Bedford Police Dpt.
