“New Bedford police detectives have arrested a juvenile and taken another gun off the streets.

On May 5, detectives were patrolling the area of the “Temple Landing” housing development. Police have heightened their vigilance in this area in response to increased activity. An encounter with a group of males near the Middle St./Chancery St. intersection resulted in the discovery of a firearm loaded with seven rounds of ammunition.

A juvenile suspect was arrested and charged with illegally carrying the loaded firearm which also bore a defaced serial number. The suspect was also charged with possession of ammunition.

The New Bedford police department remains committed in its struggle to remove illegal weapons from the streets. It is critical that they be taken out of the wrong hands before they can be used to tragic ends.
