On July 2, 2021, at 6:45AM, south end patrol officers responded to 65 Mosher St. regarding a potential explosive device.

Upon arrival, a suspicious device was discovered on the porch near to the front door. The fire department was called to the scene along with the fire inspector. Shortly thereafter, the Massachusetts State Police bomb squad arrived on scene, as did the Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team out of Newport, Rhode Island.

X-ray imaging was used to analyze the item, which was then confirmed to be an improvised, exploding device. The immediate area was evacuated, and precautions were put in place as officials on scene decided to conduct a controlled detonation. The item was successfully destroyed without incident, and at this time the investigation remains ongoing.
