“”***NEW BEDFORD POLICE HONOR GUARD IN WASHINGTON D.C.***
Police Week in Washington, D.C. is a commemorative period held annually to honor and pay tribute to the brave men and women who serve as law enforcement officers. It is a time when law enforcement agencies and their families come together to remember and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
Police Week features various events and activities, including the National Police Week Memorial Service, where fallen officers’ names are added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. The week also includes the Police Unity Tour, a bike ride that raises awareness and funds for the memorial.
Additionally, there are ceremonies, vigils, and educational programs that seek to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation for the work and sacrifices of police officers.
In the evening of May 13, the 35th Annual Candlelight Vigil was held at the National Mall in Washington D.C., honoring the tens of thousands of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, with 556 officers being specifically honored this year.
