New Bedford Police, EMS, Fire Departments respond to fatal motorcycle crash, 2nd accident on Rt. 18

At approximately 9:30pm on Thursday night, the New Bedford Police Department, along with New Bedford EMS and Fire Department responded to reports of car accident and a separate motorcycle accident, both on Route 18 North.

The first accident reportedly involved a truck and an unknown number of motorcyclists. The incident took place on Rt. 18 near the exit Fall River 195W, but the damaged motorcycle and continued on down Rt. 18 where it went through Coggeshall Street and was found just past the Golden Greek Restaurant resting against a parked SUV. Eyewitnesses on scene said the motorcycle. The rider was declared deceased on scene.

While the New Bedford and Massachusetts State Police were investigating the specifics of the accident a loud crash could be heard nearby. This incident involved two vehicles and it is unknown if “rubber necking” of the motorcycle accident was the cause.

The extent of the injuries of the occupants of these two cars is unknown. This is a developing story that we will continue to update throughout the day.
