The target of the investigation was JOSE FERNANDEZ, 47. Upon stopping FERNANDEZ in his vehicle a short distance away from the residence, he refused to open the car door and attempted to drive away, striking a cruiser in the process.

FERNANDEZ was also observed destroying baggies of suspected fentanyl within the vehicle. Detectives were able to secure him, and the warrant was executed. As a result, 3 baggies of Fentanyl, cutting agent, digital scales, and packaging materials were discovered, as was $14,344 in cash which was seized.

FERNANDEZ has been convicted of narcotics-related charges in the past, making this a subsequent offense. He is being charged with unlicensed, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop for police, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl (subsequent offense), attempting to destroy evidence, and being a career criminal.” -City of New Bedford Police Department.
