“New Bedford police detectives have seized a loaded firearm from a 16 year-old male in the city’s westend.

On January 30th at approximately 3PM, detectives assigned to the Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau were monitoring activity in the “Temple Landing” housing development. At this time, they observed a group of males who were known to them for their involvement in gang activity.

They took notice of one particular male who appeared to be holding an item in the area of his waistband as he hurried away from the scene. He was then observed attempting to gain entry into a residence to which he neither belonged, nor knew the occupants.

Detectives stopped this male and found him to be in possession of a 9mm Taurus G2C pistol, loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition. The weapon was in his waistband.

The teen was placed into custody and charged with carrying a firearm without a serial number, loaded with a large capacity magazine without license.

The arresting officers were Detectives Alan Kubik and Nathaniel Almeida.

The New Bedford police department remains steadfast in its mission to take illegal firearms off of the street before they can be used to tragic ends. Officers place themselves at great risk in pursuit of these weapons, doing so to keep the public safe. “-New Bedford Police Department.
