New Bedford police arrest five on Monday for distribution of narcotics

New Bedford police officers arrested five men throughout the day on Monday for distribution of drugs on Tinkham, State, and Covell streets.

On Monday at 12:45 pm, New Bedford police officers arrested two men for drug possession (heroin) in front of 261 Tinkham Street. Both men were stopped on the street and a search resulted in a small amount of suspected heroin. 42-year-old Matthew Viera of Fairhaven is charged with possession of a class A drug and conspiracy to violate drug laws. 30 Year old Barrett Stone is charged with possession of a class A drug, conspiracy to violate drug laws and three outstanding warrants.

At 1:36 pm, New Bedford police stopped a vehicle in near 213 State Street and arrested two men for various charges. The driver, 34-year old Michael Stande of Hyannis, had a suspended license and is being charged with possession of a class B drug (Suboxone) and conspiracy to violate drug laws. The passenger, 46-year old Javier Irizarry, was wanted on a warrant and is also being charged with possession of a class B drug (Suboxone) and conspiracy to violate drug laws.

At 5:41 pm, police arrested 23-year old Djeisan Soares of New Bedford for cocaine possession and distribution of cocaine near 15 Covell Street.
