New Bedford Police arrest Dartmouth man after allegedly robbing bank

“New Bedford police have arrested a man after he robbed a bank in the city.

On Monday, September 26, officers responded to the Taunton Federal Credit Union located at 480 Rockdale Avenue for a report of a crime in progress. When officers arrived, they learned that a man, later identified as Mark Demelo, 47, of Dartmouth, walked up to a teller and demanded money. After receiving cash, Demelo fled on foot.

A BOLO was put out for Demelo, where he was located at his residence and taken into custody with assistance from Dartmouth police.

Demelo was charged with unarmed robbery, resisting arrest, A&B with a dangerous weapon, A&B on a police officer, and putting fear in a person for stealing. The arresting officer was Sean Robert.

Demelo has an extensive criminal history with previous convictions for breaking and entering, resisting arrest, and assault and battery. He was convicted of unarmed robbery in 2018 in Bristol Superior court and was sentenced to 4-5 years.” -New Bedford Police Department.
