New Bedford Police Department makes arrest after social media post

“A local man has been arrested after flashing a firearm on social media.

On Wednesday, September 8th at approximately 1pm, gang and narcotics detectives assigned to the ‘Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau’ observed a male known to them as STERLING ROBINSON, 22 of 61 Kearsarge St., #1. ROBINSON had been seen on social media posts, displaying a firearm, and recording while driving through rival gang territory.

ROBINSON was stopped for motor vehicle offenses. A search of the vehicle was conducted, during which a 9mm, Smith & Wesson pistol loaded with 8 rounds of ammunition was discovered hidden in an area behind the glove compartment. The pistol was determined to have been stolen out of New Bedford. Approximately 1 pound of marijuana and $137 in cash was also seized.

ROBINSON was arrested on a variety of charges including firearm & ammunition possession, receiving stolen property, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and motor vehicle offenses. ROBINSON has numerous open cases out of New Bedford district court including carrying a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer, and unarmed robbery.
The investigating officer is Det. Timothy Soares.
