“New Bedford police detectives have arrested a man on a variety of narcotics charges.
On January 30th, detectives assigned to the Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau were targeting drug activity in the north-end sector when they observed what they believed to be a drug transaction take place between a male and female.
Detectives stopped both parties. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the female, identified as Ms. PEIGHTYN RILEY, 28, had just purchased Xanax tablets from the male, identified as Mr. MUHAMMAD MAHMOUD, 30. Both parties are New Bedford residents.
Within the vehicle he had been operating, MAHMOUD was found to have over 49 grams of Fentanyl, over 9 grams of counterfeit Oxycodone, 18 grams of Xanax tablets, and two plastic baggies of “crack” cocaine weighing over 5 grams. He was also found to be in possession of over $800 which was seized as a result of the nature of his charges.
MAHMOUD was placed into custody and charged with trafficking in excess of 36 grams of Fentanyl, possession of classes B and E with intent to distribute, distribution of class E, and conspiracy to violate the controlled substance laws. RILEY was charged with possession of class E and conspiracy.
The investigating detective was Samuel Algarin-Mojica.
