New Bedford Police charge 19-year old with breaking into vehicles

New Bedford police have arrested a man for breaking into vehicles Friday morning.

Downtown units responded to the area of Chancery and Union Streets just after 1 a.m. after receiving a call from a witness who said two men were breaking into autos.

The witness was also able to provide officers with a clothing description and area of travel. When police arrived in the area, they saw two men in a yard on Morgan Street.

After a foot pursuit with the suspects, officer Michael Jacques apprehended one of the men, identified as Taziah Andrade, 19, of Emerson Street. Jacques also recovered several items that were believed to be stolen.

Andrade was charged with breaking and entering a vehicle in the night with the intent to commit a felony and receiving stolen property over $1,200.

The investigation is ongoing for the identity of the second suspect.
