New Bedford Mayoral preliminary election results: Gomes, Mitchell move on

Incumbent Mayor Jon Mitchell and at-Large Councilor Brian Gomes will face off in the November 5th municipal New Bedford Mayoral election. 5,618 or 9.5% of New Bedford’s registered voters turned out today.

Brian Gomes also made it into the next round for City Council at-Large. According to the New Bedford elections office, Brian Gomes can withdraw for mayor or at-Large within 6 days, but it is not required. If he withdraws for mayor, third place finisher Richard Tyson Moultrie would move into second place and compete against Mitchell in November. If Gomes withdraws for at-Large, Russell Dearing would move on in the at-Large race in November.

Here are the results for the October 1 New Bedford Mayoral preliminary election:

Jon Mitchell: 3,150 (57%)
Brian Gomes: 1,118 (20%)
Richard Tyson Moultrie: 596 (11%)
Michael Medeiros: 397 (7%)
David Pimental: 170 (3%)
Jose Perez: 71 (1%)
