New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell announces re-election bid

This morning around 9:30am, New Bedford mayor Jon Mitchell picked up nomination papers at the elections office at City Hall and formerly announced his re-election bid for 2017. This will be his third re-election bid. He defeated State Representative Antonio Cabral in 2011, ran unopposed in 2013 and defeated Maria Giesta in 2015.

Candidates have until August 15 to submit 50 valid signatures to the election office. The preliminary election is October 3rd and the top two finishers move on to the final municipal election on 3 November. The winner of the Municipal Election is sworn in and serves office on 1 Jan, 2018.
