“Two people have died in a multi-vehicle crash yesterday morning in Freetown.

According to Dave Procopio of Massachusetts State Police, at approximately 8:15 a.m. today, Troopers assigned to State Police-Dartmouth received 911 reports of a black Kia Sedona being operated erratically on Route 140 northbound in Freetown.

As Troopers were dispatched to that area, a 911 caller reported the vehicle had just crashed off of the roadway at the 10.6 mile marker and struck a tree, striking three other vehicles in the process.

Upon arrival on scene, Troopers found two occupants inside of the Kia suffering from serious injuries. Life-saving efforts were performed by Freetown Fire and EMS, but both the operator, 54-year-old Jose Amorin from New Bedford, and the passenger, 70-year-old Marinalva DeLima from New Bedford, succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

The speed of the Kia is believed to have been a factor in the crash. The names of the victims were not released.

The crash remains under investigation by Troopers assigned to the Dartmouth Barracks, the Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, the Crime Scene Services Section, and Bristol County State Police Detective Unit. Troopers were assisted on scene by MassDOT.

The operator of one of the other vehicles struck by the Kia suffered minor injuries.”-Massachusetts State Police.
