New Bedford man receives achievement medals while serving in the U.S. Navy

“Hi there! I was hoping to get my brother Shane Diaz recognized for his prior and continued service to this wonderful country.

Shane was born and raised in New Bedford and graduated from New Bedford Voc Tech in 2011 from the engineering shop. Shane has been enlisted in the U.S. Navy now for over 7 years and has reached the rank of First Class Petty Officer. He is a machinist mate nuclear first class and served on the USS George H.W. Bush (aircraft carrier).

During his tenure on the carrier, he was the assistant leading Petty Officer in the Reactor Propulsion Two Main Machinery Room Work Center and was in charge of 41 sailors. He received two Navy achievement medals during his time on the carrier.

He is now on shore duty in Norfolk, Virginia where he oversees 30 sailors who fix and maintain specific systems on vessels in the Mid-Atlantic Fleet.

I want my brother to know although he is home very rarely you are not forgotten and we appreciate everything he has done and miss him greatly.
