New Bedford man killed in car crash in Charlestown

On Sunday morning, Charlestown police, firefighters and ambulance personnel were called to Route 1 just after 12:30 a.m. for reports of a crash. Upon arrival, they found a car on the side of the road that had apparently collided with a tree head-on.

First responders immediately pulled the driver out of the car and began performing CPR. The 30-year old man, was then identified as Justin Viera from New Bedford. He was taken to Westerly Hospital where he was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by members of the Charlestown Police Department and they are asking for the public’s help with any information. You can call the Charlestown Police Department at 401-364-1212.
