New Bedford man attempts to rob St. Anthony’s Credit Union

attempted-robbery-new-bedfordThis afternoon at approximately 3:50pm north end officers were dispatched to St. Anthony’s Credit Union at 1743 Acushnet Ave. regarding an attempted bank robbery. The suspect entered the bank and handed the teller a note saying he had a gun and demanded money. No weapon was shown and there were no injuries.

The suspect ended up fleeing the bank without getting anything.

Detective Paul Fonseca and Officer Lorenzo Gonzalez observed surveillance photos and recognized the suspect as Javier Acevedo Ferrer. They went to his home at 74 Hope St. apt. 3 south and found Mr. Ferrer hiding in a bedroom closet. He was taken into custody without incident. Witnesses at the bank were able to positively identify him as the would be robber.

The note used in the attempted robbery was also recovered in his apartment.

Scheduled to be arraigned Monday morning in New Bedford District Court; Javier Acevedo Ferrer age 30 of 74 Hope St. apt. 3S is being charged with;

  • Unarmed assault with intent to rob. (10 year felony)
