New Bedford man facing multiple assault charges after allegedly driving into building

“On January 23, at approximately 12:30 am, west-end police units were investigating an accident involving a motor vehicle versus a building on Bedford St.

The suspect was located attempting to hide in a residential garage on Allen St. He was identified as ALEXANDER FORTES, 23, of 1213 Purchase St., #306.

FORTES was uncooperative with police on scene and began creating a disturbance. At one point he shoved an officer and also pushed a responding paramedic who had arrived to assist him. FORTES was also found to have been operating unlicensed.

Fortes has been charged with Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Assault and Battery on a public employee, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, and Burglary/Breaking and Entering a Building at Nightime for Felony.” -New Bedford Police Department.

  1. 1213 Purchase St. isn’t a street address its the building on the corner of Maxfield and Purchase St. It isn’t a residence so I think its either a fake address or somehow the address numbers were jumbled.
