New Bedford man arrested with firearm after posting live video on social media

July 20, 2021, at 11:00pm, TYRELL MARTIN, 20, 128 Mott St., #1, began a live-feed video on social media while standing in the Blue Meadows housing development. Martin provided his location, indicated that he was carrying a firearm and challenged rival gang members to “pull up”.

Gang unit detectives received this information and immediately made their way to Martin’s location. Upon noticing the approach of police, Martin discarded a fanny pack he was wearing and fled on foot. He was subsequently apprehended and taken into custody after a brief pursuit. The fanny pack he had discarded was found to contain a .9mm semiautomatic handgun loaded with ammunition. Martin was also found in possession of 4 oxycodone tablets.

Martin currently has an open case in Third District court for unarmed robbery and an open case in Bristol Superior court for trafficking cocaine.
