New Bedford man arrested for possessing stolen property, drugs and firearm

New Bedford Police Detectives arrested a city man after a search warrant was executed at 208 Sycamore Street in New Bedford.

Detectives concluded an investigation into the theft of a “dirt bike” that led them to this address. Upon the execution of the search warrant, Detectives located a stolen bike, along with a stolen firearm, ammunition, 6 pounds of marijuana, 50 Oxycodone pills, and $7,943 in cash. The stolen bike was returned to the lawful owner.

Arrested was Austin J. Mendes, 21, of 208 Sycamore Street, New Bedford, Ma. Mr. Mendes was charged with two counts of receiving stolen property, possession with intent to distribute class D and B, and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Mr. Mendes was arraigned in District Court on Friday. The lead investigators in this case were Detective Shawn Robert and Detective William Westgate.
