The New Bedford Police gang unit took about $3,000 worth of cocaine off the streets and eight rounds of ammunition off the street Tuesday, April 3, following an investigation into a cocaine distribution service out of 21 Sycamore St. Apt. 2.

The target of the investigation, Dante Hector, 21, of 21 Sycamore St. Apt. 2, New Bedford, was arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of Suboxone strips with intent to distribute.

Police executed a search warrant at the residence and found about 28 grams of cocaine, 19 Suboxone strips, digital scales, packaging materials, $1,113 in cash and eight rounds of .380 ammunition.

He was ordered held without bail until July 2 after being found in violation of the bail set on his previous cases. He has open cases for armed assault in a dwelling, unlawful possession of a firearm and conspiracy to violate drug laws. That bail comes with the stipulation that the defendant avoid any further criminal activity.

Judge Robert S. Ovoian set bail at $10,000 on the new charges. That case is continued to May 3.
