New Bedford man arrested by Massachusetts State Police after fleeing Rochester traffic stop

“On Friday, January 6, 2023, at 9:15pm, Officer Alves and Officer Delmonte were in stationary posts monitoring traffic at the intersection of Rt. 105 and North Ave.

At this time, Officer Alves observed a gray Infinity sedan fail to stop at the westbound stop sign on North Ave. When it was safe to do so, Officer Alves initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle at the intersection of North Ave and Winfield St.

As Officer Alves dismounted his cruiser, the operator put the vehicle back into drive and fled the scene of the traffic stop. Both officers briefly pursued the vehicle onto Rt. 18 southbound in Freetown until the vehicle gained significant speed and deactivated its headlights. At this time, the decision was made to terminate the pursuit in order to ensure public safety.

A short time later, members of the Massachusetts State Police Dartmouth barracks located the vehicle in New Bedford and were able to take the operator into custody without further incident. The operator was identified as Brandon VIEIRA DoB 11/12/86.

VIEIRA was then transported back to the Rochester Police Department for booking Cash bail for VIEIRA was set at $5,000. VIEIRA was unable to make bail and was transported to Plymouth County House of Corrections where he stayed until he was arraigned at Wareham District Court on Monday, January 9, on the following charges:

– Ch. 90-25 Stop for Police, Fail
– Ch. 90-23 Operating After Suspended License
– Ch. 90-24 Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
– Ch. 90-17 Speeding
– Ch. 90-7 Equipment Violation, Headlights
– Ch. 89-9 Stop Sign Violation (2)
– Ch. 89-4a Marked Lanes Violation
– Immediate Threat

Rochester Police Department was assisted throughout the incident by the Massachusetts State Police Dartmouth, Freetown Police Department, The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department, and Murphy’s Towing.” -Rochester Police Department.
