New Bedford Lyceum presents Socio-Political comedian Kamau Bell at the Zeiterion, April 6

New Bedford Lyceum welcomes W. Kamau Bell at the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center on Saturday, April 6, at 8:00 p.m. with “The W. Kamau Bell Curve: Ending Racism in About an Hour,” a multi-media performance of stand-up comedy and storytelling. Bell is a socio-political comedian and Emmy Award-winning executive producer and host of United Shades of America on CNN. Tickets range from $25 to $75 and can be purchased by calling 508-994-2900, online at https://zeiterion.org/, or at the Zeiterion Box Office at 684 Purchase Street in New Bedford. Group sales of 10 tickets and more are available by calling 508-997-5664 x123.

Bell is the latest luminary to speak as part of the revived New Bedford Lyceum, a centuries-old New England tradition of learning through intellectual debate. He delivers incisive, scathingly funny commentary on modern society that will change your view of race, politics and social issues in America. His edgy yet level-headed view of the world leaves you with a more hopeful understanding of our country’s challenges, as well as conversation-stoking takeaways on humanity and social change.

Just like skinny jeans, superhero movies, and celebrity weight loss, racism continues to make a comeback. “The W. Kamau Bell Curve: Ending Racism in About an Hour” is a comedic, topical exploration of the current state of America’s racism, combined with a little (unknown) history, a little Powerpoint, and a whole bunch of Bell. And because racism is always attacking in new ways and from new angles, Bell attacks back by constantly adding new material. “The Curve” is a seamless mix of stand-up comedy, video and audio clips, personal stories, knowledge-dropping, and solo theatrical performance.

Previous New Bedford Lyceum speakers include Gloria Steinem and Bob Woodward. New Bedford Lyceum partners include City of New Bedford, Community Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts, Leadership SouthCoast, The Marion Institute, New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce, New Bedford Historical Society, New Bedford Whaling Museum, SouthCoast Media Group, Unger LeBlanc Strategic Communications, and Zeiterion Theatre, Inc.
