The Director and Trustees of the New Bedford Public Library are working with a library services consultant to develop a new strategic plan that will serve as a blueprint for service enhancements for the New Bedford Free Public Library for the next several years. The strategic plan will set the course for the library’s future for a 3—5 year period and will ensure that it continues to meet the evolving needs of the community

As part of the strategic planning process the library will host a public forum to gather input from community members on the features they want and need from the library system. The information gathered at this event will be combined with the data collected from the library’s community partners, trustees and staff to develop a mission and vision statement and to establish goals and multi-year objectives.

“One of our core values in New Bedford city government is ‘continued improvement’ and this strategic planning process is a great example of the library’s commitment to provide New Bedford residents with more efficient and more effective services. The New Bedford Free Public Library has served as an important educational institution in this community since 1852. We invite the public to attend the upcoming forum to help us form a plan and vision for the library’s next chapter,” said Library Director, Olivia Melo.

The Library Strategic Plan Community Forum will be held on Saturday, October 1st at the Main Library, 613 Pleasant Street from 9:30AM through 11:30AM.
