New Bedford High School students Himali Patel and Amanda Zenko interned at Southern Mass Credit Union this past summer as part of the Connecting Activities internship partnership. Amanda has continued to be a part of the credit union’s community outreach, giving back to the community and participating this holiday season in Meet Santa at SMCU.

The students are part of NBHS’s Academy of Finance, and interned with Southern Mass Credit Union in the summer to gain an array of experience across the spectrum of the financial institution, spending time in departments including member services, the teller department, accounting, information technology, member support, human resources, marketing, and collections at SMCU.

“The Connecting Activities paid summer internship program is a wonderful opportunity for students to gain first-hand knowledge of the operations of a particular business,” stated Rose Ferreira, Southern Mass School Savings/School Branch Manager. “We are pleased that students Himali and Amanda chose Southern Mass Credit Union working in every department throughout the summer, while we had the pleasure of working with two professional young adults. And, since the completion of the program, Amanda has come back to the credit union volunteering to help us with two children’s events for which we are most appreciative.”
