New Bedford Free Public Library hosts Books Come to Life end-of-summer reading celebration

The New Bedford Free Public Library in association with 3rd Eye Unlimited will host Books Come to Life, an end-of-summer reading celebration at the main library, 613 Pleasant Street, on Saturday, August 19 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Local crafters and artisans, musicians, and book enthusiasts will present talks and demonstrations for adults and children.

– Ed the Wizard (11 a.m.) – a presentation for kids with magic, stories and prizes

– Knitting presentation, with Library Director Olivia Melo (12 p.m.)

– Woodcarving, with Bill White of the New Bedford Department of Facilities and Fleet Management (1 p.m.) – will teach attendees how to carve a bird made from wood

– The Value of the Book, with Ray Rickman (2 p.m.) – an Antiques Road Show-style presentation about what makes a book valuable, what types of book have the highest retail value, and complimentary estimates of the value of up to three books

– Book for Fines (ongoing) – Bring in a gently used book to be added to the book sale or the library’s collection, and money will be deducted from your fines: $1 credited for a soft cover donation, $2 for a hardcover book (the library cannot accept broken spines, water damage, writing/highlighting or missing pages/tears; not applicable for lost books).
