New Bedford Fire, Police Department, Animal Control, respond to Willard Street structure fire

“The New Bedford Fire Department responded to 58 Willard St shortly after 9:00pm this evening for a reported structure fire.

On arrival, Engine 6 & Ladder 3 reported a two story, one-family residence with fire extending through the roof in the rear of the dwelling. Crews undertook an interior attack on the fire while simultaneously protecting the exposures on both sides and the garage in the rear. The fire was contained to the one family residence. A special alarm was called bringing four engines, two ladders, and the air supply unit to the scene.

Unfortunately, two out of four dogs perished and two cats are missing at the time if this email. The home is not habitable and the Red Cross is assisting the three residence, all adults.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Fire Investigation Unit. The residents were not home at the time of the fire but a female resident was transported to St. Luke’s ED by NBEMS shortly after arriving on scene.

There were no firefighter injuries. NBEMA, NB Animal Control, New Bedford EMS, NBPD, and the Providence Canteen provided assistance at the scene.”-New Bedford Fire Department.
