There was a fire at the old Building #19 complex this morning. New Bedford firefighters were called to the scene around 8:30am where they discovered a fire in the ceiling and attic space. The fire started on the third floor and extended into the attic space.

The cause of the fire is suspicious and under investigation as there is no current electric or gas service into the building. No injuries reported. New Bedford firefighters were on the scene for about 2 hours.

Building #19 is being demolished and the work is about 50% complete. There is a homeless encampment near the rear of the building near the railroad tracks. The Building #19 complex has several holes that allow access for illegal entry. More information will be provided as we get it.
