New Bedford Fire Department responds to structure fire on West Hill Road

“Yesterday morning ay 0824 hrs, the New Bedford Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 123 West Hill Rd. This structure is a two-story, wood-frame structure with four living units.

The fire originated in a first-floor apartment and charged the building with smoke. The fire which originated in a first-floor bathroom was extinguished by Engine 7. The crew of Ladder 4 led a second-floor tenant to safety. This female occupant was transported to St. Luke’s Emergency Department by NBEMS for evaluation of smoke inhalation.

There were no other firefighter or civilian injuries. The occupants were alerted of the fire by a properly functioning fire alarm system. The cause if the fire was investigated by the New Bedford Fire Department Fire Investigation Unit and is accidental.

No other tenants were displaced by the fire and were being assisted by property management.
